A Message from Kahl Home
May 28, 2020
To Our Residents and Their Families:
Providing you with weekly updates concerning the number of pending COVID-19 tests and any positive results for employees/residents is part of our commitment to keep you informed of the important measures we have in place to continue to provide the highest level of care for our patients during these difficult times. The facility plans to continue sending weekly updates, but any updates through the week if there is a change in our Covid status will be on our website www.kahlhomedav.com.
The health and safety of our residents and employees remains our top priority. Because of this, Kahl Home continues to practice strict guidelines concerning hygiene, social distancing, and infection control while abiding by all CDC, Department of Health, WHO, and CMS guidance as it pertains to containing and managing the COVID-19 virus.
Our safety measures include:
- Physical distancing: closing the facility to outside visitors, ending group activities, and taking steps to limit direct interactions between staff and residents.
- Infection control: providing access to Personal Protective Equipment for all staff, identifying strategies for maximizing the use of PPE, and increasing cleanings and other
sanitizing/hygiene efforts. - Screening: Screening all staff for illness prior to start and end of their shift. Any employee that appears ill is tested immediately and required to take sick leave and remain home until they meet the designated criteria to return to work.
- Testing: Immediately testing of any resident exhibiting symptoms; expanding testing to include all residents once the DPH increased access.
There are currently no residents or employees exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19. Thanks to the tireless dedication of our Staff, Sisters, Doctors, Public Health, CDC, CMS, and Scott County Emergency Services. The facility did Anterior Nares testing on all the residents. The results were negative for all of our residents as well as employees. We realize the governor has been opening various businesses in our area. The facility has been working on a reopening plan which will be accomplished in phases. We want to open as safely as possible protecting our precious residents as I know you feel the same way. Guidelines will be sent out to each of you when Public Health and the facility is at the last phase to reopen safely. The Carmelite Sisters did purchase a special ultraviolet cleaning machine and a thermal temperature camera
preparing for the reopening.
All infection control protocols for isolation and quarantine issued by the CDC and Department of Health are in place and being closely monitored. We are also actively observing our residents and employees for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, and will continue to work with our local and state health departments to ensure we keep our residents here at Kahl Home as safe as possible.
Please rest assured we will continue to remain diligent in our management of this situation, and will keep our residents, their families, and our employees updated concerning any active cases that may arise and our response to them. At this time, please continue to pray for the facility, our Sisters, Carmelite Homes, and our Country.
Sincerely,
May 7, 2020
